Chitra - Chapter 1 (Part 2): A World Without Rerolling

She stared blankly at the rabbit statue, then back down at the paper with an equally blank expression.

The paper read:

—One free draw ticket.

The moment she saw it, sweat gathered in her hands. It was very familiar. She understood very well what kind of game ability the god had given her.

‘T-This is…!’

The extravagant decorations of the giant golden rabbit statue were so magnificent, it felt like they would drain her bank account. It felt like just pressing its paw would cause super rare, super special cards to pour out. But she knew that the moment she pressed it, only trash would come rolling out.

Because it was a draw of betrayal.

That’s right.

‘What I’ve been given is a game ability. And the genre is a character-collecting game.’

Of all genres, it had to be a mobile free-to-play game, also known as a Gacha game.

If you want a certain character, you just spend money. If you spend money, you might get a good character if you’re lucky.

Of course, most of the time, it just drains your bank account and leads to ruin. There’s a reason why the casino owner is the winner in a casino. That’s just how life is.

She quickly understood the system.

‘My five-year history of living as a free-to-play player speaks for itself.’

She was a free user, a no-pay user, to the core.

While studying for the civil service exam, she couldn’t bring herself to spend money on games. So, all she did was flip a page, press the Auto-Hunt button, flip another page, and press the Auto-Hunt button again.

She grinded like crazy in ranking battles to keep up with the paying users.

That’s right. The study room in Noryangjin was her gaming arena. She became a famous ranker, the only one in the server’s top 10 who didn’t spend a dime, and in return, she failed the civil service exam.

That’s why the God of Beauty chose her.

—With this pure dedication, she will surely make my religion prosper.

She never succumbed to the temptation of spending. She treated draw tickets like dirt. She was satisfied with the free draw ticket she received each day.

She was the only person in Korea who could purely use 3-star characters, which others called garbage, without spending a single won and grinding like crazy.

—Then use that ability for our religion!

The God of Beauty’s choice was excellent.

Meanwhile, she was lost in thought.

‘R-Reroll… No, that’s not right. You can’t just erase reality and start over.’

Impossible. Usually, mobile draw games let you do one free paid draw at the beginning. So, people use that to draw Gacha until they get a good unit, then delete the game and repeat the process.

A reset marathon until a good character is drawn from the free draw!

That’s what they call ‘rerolling’ for short.

Whether the god knew that or was just doing it for her, who had nothing, he gave her a free draw ticket.

‘But reality is irreversible!’

Reality isn’t a place where you can just delete and reinstall like a game. You can’t just die and be reborn.

“K-Kuh…! Why did the game have to be this genre…!”

There could have been a strategy simulation, a dating simulation, a raising simulation, but why, out of all the things, did it have to be a mobile draw game that drains your wealth the most!

Besides.

She couldn’t just not do it.

It was true that she needed a helper to survive in this world.

When she didn’t react, the golden rabbit statue said cutely.

[Press the paw to draw an ancient hero~☆]

Shut your mouth, child of Satan! I’m going to draw anyway!

“C-Concentrate. I need to concentrate.”

Now that it’s come to this, she has no choice but to draw.

The draw ticket is so temptingly flashy.

She stood in front of the rabbit statue. It seemed like if she put the draw ticket in the rabbit statue’s mouth and turned its paw, something would come out.

‘P-Phone… Oh, right, I don’t have one.’

She unconsciously reached for her phone, but of course, it wasn’t there.

‘I’ve finally been freed from being a slave to Auto-Hunt.’

People’s habits are truly scary.

She sat on the bed and took a deep breath. It was the pre-draw meditation that any gamer who had drained their bank account would have done at least once.

‘This is the first draw. Right now, I don’t even know what’s what, or what’s good. So, it’s a more peaceful situation than ever. There’s no situation where I can empty my desires as much as now.’

She inhaled deeply through her nose and exhaled through her mouth.

Hoo…

After breathing like that for a while, she slowly opened her eyes. Then, with a selfless mind, she pressed the rabbit’s paw.

Clunk!

The golden rabbit statue’s belly began to spin. It was like fate.

She waited for this time to pass quickly.

A current that felt like a heart attack ran down her spine. At the same time, a sound rang out.

[Super Super Ultra Special Rare—!]

The rabbit’s belly opened, and a marble rolled out. The moment she picked it up, a dimensional gate opened.

[5-Star Ancient Warrior Appears—!]

The sound was magnificent. 5, 5-star? Usually, if 3-star is the base in these kinds of games, then 5-star is something that comes out after breaking through a great probability, right?

Light burst out.

She was so surprised by the sudden appearance of a 5-star that she just stared blankly.

A 5-star on the first try! Is this the result of a mind as still as a mirror!

A dazzling melody rang in her ears.

‘So, what kind of hero is this 5-star?’

Someone began to appear with their back to the light.

Her heart felt like it would burst with anticipation. Her head was filled with thoughts of what kind of hero would come out and help her.

‘Since this is a fantasy world, a great mage? A warrior who uses both sword and magic? An elf archer? Or….’

Countless Gacha games from fantasy worldviews flashed through her mind.

The light grew even brighter in front of her, who was watching with anticipation.

Boom!

And in that place, a man in a jet-black suit popped out.

“I am honored to serve my master.”

[Legendary Warrior Butler! An ancient hero who defeated the Demon King in the past and got a job as a butler in his later years—!]

[Dark Attribute, Radelk—!]

The man grabbed her hand. His pure white hair fluttered in the wind. He was a man with a cold impression. It was as if color and temperature did not exist at all.

He knelt on one knee and kissed the back of her hand.

“I have come in response to your call, Master.”

C-Cough.

She was so flustered that she couldn’t move.

An ancient hero who defeated the Demon King and got a job as a butler in his later years? What kind of life drama does this person have?

While she was flustered, the man looked at the giant golden rabbit statue instead of answering. The rabbit statue said.

[One draw ticket is over. From now on, collect faith points and spend them—! Your faith creates bigger spending—! Then! Bye-bye—!]

Back to Before Marriage (Rebirth) - Chapter 1

On New Year’s Eve, H City Central Hospital was quiet and deserted, with very few patients. Aside from those in critical condition or whose homes were far away, almost everyone had gone home to celebrate the New Year. The cardiology ward was nearly empty as well. Mu Yuting’s room was a triple, but tonight she was the only one there. She wasn’t a critical patient, her home was in the city, and she chose not to go back for the holidays—because there was no one at home. Her parents had long passed away, and her daughter was spending the New Year with Mu Yuting’s deadbeat ex-husband. Recently, she had been admitted to the hospital due to intermittent angina and chest tightness. With medical staff on duty and a cafeteria on-site, staying in the hospital was actually convenient. **"Thank you for raising our daughter so well. Now, she’s mine."** That was the message her ex-husband had sent. When she received it, Mu Yuting was sitting beside her hospital bed, eating her New Year’s Eve...

Back to Before Marriage (Rebirth) - Chapter 3

The morning sun did not wake Mu Yuting; instead, it was the alarm on her phone. The familiar melody of a classical-style ringtone played twice before she extended a hand from her warm blanket to silence it, then got up to wash and prepare for the day. She loved this classical tune—in her previous life, she had used it as her ringtone for over thirty years, never changing it until the day she died. Mu's Mother had already prepared a healthy breakfast: freshly ground soy milk from their home soy milk maker and three steamed buns. "Tingting, I've poured you a cup of soy milk. Take two buns to eat on your way." "Got it, Mom." Mother and daughter left home together, each carrying their breakfast, heading off to work. Outside the courtyard, Mu's Mother boarded the company's seven-seater commuter van, while Mu Yuting walked toward the bus stop. They worked at different places, and their routes were completely separate. Fortunately, the bus stop had clear s...

Novice Witch - Chapter 1: The Witch Sets Off

I bow slightly with my hands clasped in front of the house where I've spent many years. "Ouch!" I'm struck from behind with a staff. As I rub my head and turn around, I see my Master standing there, staff in hand. "Don't create an atmosphere like you're saying farewell to the dead." "Tehe~" I'm struck with the staff again. "Sigh, so have you forgotten anything? Did you bring a handkerchief?" "Are you my mother, Master? Well, I suppose you're something similar. Don't worry, I've put everything in my Storage Pouch." I pat the pouch hanging diagonally across my shoulder. "More importantly, will you be alright without me? Can you clean properly? Don't stay cooped up all the time; get some sunlight occasionally, okay?" "Ellie, before you came here, I had always managed on my own, so I'll be fine." Ellie is me. My real name is Ino Eri, a proper Japanese person. It's been about 30...
