Chitra - Chapter 1 (Part 1): A World Without Rerolling

Chapter 1. A World Without Rerolling

Consciousness floats up, pushed by a wave.

The first thing she felt was gravity. The weight of the blanket pressing down on her body.

The second was the smell. The musty odor of old mold, saturated with moisture, stung her nostrils.

The third was hunger. She was starving. Her stomach was so sore that she couldn't bear to keep her eyes closed.

"Where...?"

When she came to her senses, she was lying alone in a strange place, not on a hospital bed. The ceiling was covered in antique wallpaper, but there was so much mold that it was hard to tell where the pattern ended and the mold began.

She looked at her wrist and saw a smooth, unblemished wrist, with no IV drip. It was strange.

'My skin was originally dark, wasn't it?'

Thanks to swimming like crazy without sunscreen when she was young, her skin was more damaged than anyone else's. It was a terrible collaboration of chlorine and ultraviolet rays.

She could confidently say that her skin looked ten years older than others'...

"Huh, it's pale? And there are no scars."

―Creating skill.

[Knowledge: Basic]

At that moment, something familiar appeared before her eyes, obscuring her vision. No matter how she looked at it, it was a quest window like the ones she saw in games. For it to appear in reality...

'Am I seeing things?'

The moment she had that thought, a tremendous pain began to surge through her head.

"Aaaaaagh—!"

She groaned and clutched her head. It felt as if someone was forcibly installing information into her brain.

No matter how much she screamed, no one came into the empty old castle.

Like a cicada pupa clinging to a tree, she writhed on the bed for a long time.

Eventually, the headache stopped. All the information began to flood in.

Surprisingly, what came out of her mouth was not Korean, but a strange language.

"Ha, hahaha... No way.(ah―ahaha dsqn's dot.)"

Knowledge poured in. Nothing grand. Just the basic common sense that people in this world possessed.

Language, writing.

And finally, information about the owner of this body.

In the old mirror sat a woman with cherry blossom-colored hair. A color that could never be achieved with dye.

"So, I really am dead."

As the Knowledge skill was injected, numerous images flashed through her mind. One of them was her own body, broken in half. A person wasn't a pith helmet, yet her upper and lower body were separated, rolling in the first and second lanes. Viscera and spine flew out, creating a grotesque scene that could only be seen in a third-rate movie. Passersby vomited.

What on earth had happened?

Her body had bounced off the median strip. And then, a dump truck coming in the opposite direction must have hit her again. She didn't know what happened after that. She couldn't even guess.

It had happened to her body, which had been living in Korea, just moments ago.

'I'm dead. I'm dead.'

Like a fool, she was worried about her phone game even as she was being hit. Was it because of the adrenaline? She didn't even feel that much pain at the time of the accident.

'Yeah. I'm dead.'

There was no need for an ambulance to come. It was just instant death.

'If I had known this would happen, I would have been nicer to Mom.'

She would cry a lot, wouldn't she? She could only hope that she would recover quickly. A tear streamed down her cheek.

'I've only lived recklessly my whole life.'

She was a terrible daughter. She only increased her family's debt with tuition and textbook fees, saying she was studying for the civil service exam. Why did she believe that these days would continue?

If she had known she would leave so soon, she would have spent her time more preciously...

'No. It's over. I really... can't go back now.'

She curled up and cried for a long time.

How long had it been? Once her mind was settled, she began to feel pain in her body.

Grumble.

Her empty stomach was so sore that it hurt. The pain brought her back to reality.

Life was funny. No matter how painful the moment, the body demanded food.

"That thing back then wasn't a dream either."

The dream where a rabbit came out and claimed to be the god of beauty. Logically, it didn't make sense, so she just thought it was a hallucination she was having in the hospital.

That she was being carried to the operating table and having a dream in the process.

She was also relieved that she couldn't see flower gardens or her ancestors.

But that wasn't the case.

According to the knowledge that had been forcibly implanted in her head, the rabbit was a real god. And that god had pulled her, who was destined to die, into this world and put her into someone else's body.

"So, this is another world."

There were dragons and elves. Wizards used magic.

Her head felt like it was going to explode. She had lived for 26 years on Earth. It would take time to recall her entire life. But as she entered the body of another person in this world, all the memories that the body's owner had were flooding into her head at once.

She felt nauseous. She was extremely carsick.

"Ugh..."

She grabbed the bedpost and let out a small groan.

But only for a moment, and then she began to understand.

The owner of this body was a noble lady with the title of Countess. A Countess who was left alone after her family died tragically.

Even her territory had been taken away by her relatives, leaving her with only this castle and two villages. She had inherited the title of Countess, but there was almost nothing left.

"The owner of this body is mute."

After her family died tragically in front of her, she showed symptoms of autism due to the shock. Everyone ignored her. Everyone abandoned her.

The knights competed to change masters, and so did the servants. Not a single person remained in her castle.

She had the title of Countess and two villages in her possession, but destruction was already foretold.

Even so, the only reason they didn't try to poison her or oppress her to somehow steal her title was one thing.

'Bloodline.'

Her bloodline was a family of priests who served the god of beauty. Now, she was the only priestess left, but the Divine Blood of the god of beauty flowed through her veins.

'People might not be scary, but gods seem to be.'

It was said to be unlucky. In this world, gods really did strike down with lightning and give divine punishment, so they just left her alone. A girl who would die if left alone anyway.

A mute, autistic girl.

Thanks to that, she slowly withered away without even drinking a sip of water. Because of her depression and autism, she didn't even try to live. She didn't eat properly in an unclean place, so illness came.

A terrible fever burned her body. Even the last servant who attended to her left.

Eventually, she died.

And she had entered such a body.

Countess Chitra Serekino.

A name given with the hope that luck would always be with her, but in reality, she was unlucky until the day she died.

'If you're going to put a soul in, at least do it right.'

Now that things had come to this.

There was only one thing she could do.

To live as Countess Chitra Serekino. And to complete the mission given by God in order to survive.

She, who had been casually enjoying free-to-play phone games while preparing for the civil service exam, had become a Countess in another world.

While she was organizing her thoughts for a moment.

A change occurred.

At that moment, a blue piece of paper appeared in her hand with a flash of light. And a giant golden rabbit statue appeared before her.

Back to Before Marriage (Rebirth) - Chapter 1

On New Year’s Eve, H City Central Hospital was quiet and deserted, with very few patients. Aside from those in critical condition or whose homes were far away, almost everyone had gone home to celebrate the New Year. The cardiology ward was nearly empty as well. Mu Yuting’s room was a triple, but tonight she was the only one there. She wasn’t a critical patient, her home was in the city, and she chose not to go back for the holidays—because there was no one at home. Her parents had long passed away, and her daughter was spending the New Year with Mu Yuting’s deadbeat ex-husband. Recently, she had been admitted to the hospital due to intermittent angina and chest tightness. With medical staff on duty and a cafeteria on-site, staying in the hospital was actually convenient. **"Thank you for raising our daughter so well. Now, she’s mine."** That was the message her ex-husband had sent. When she received it, Mu Yuting was sitting beside her hospital bed, eating her New Year’s Eve...

Back to Before Marriage (Rebirth) - Chapter 3

The morning sun did not wake Mu Yuting; instead, it was the alarm on her phone. The familiar melody of a classical-style ringtone played twice before she extended a hand from her warm blanket to silence it, then got up to wash and prepare for the day. She loved this classical tune—in her previous life, she had used it as her ringtone for over thirty years, never changing it until the day she died. Mu's Mother had already prepared a healthy breakfast: freshly ground soy milk from their home soy milk maker and three steamed buns. "Tingting, I've poured you a cup of soy milk. Take two buns to eat on your way." "Got it, Mom." Mother and daughter left home together, each carrying their breakfast, heading off to work. Outside the courtyard, Mu's Mother boarded the company's seven-seater commuter van, while Mu Yuting walked toward the bus stop. They worked at different places, and their routes were completely separate. Fortunately, the bus stop had clear s...

Novice Witch - Chapter 1: The Witch Sets Off

I bow slightly with my hands clasped in front of the house where I've spent many years. "Ouch!" I'm struck from behind with a staff. As I rub my head and turn around, I see my Master standing there, staff in hand. "Don't create an atmosphere like you're saying farewell to the dead." "Tehe~" I'm struck with the staff again. "Sigh, so have you forgotten anything? Did you bring a handkerchief?" "Are you my mother, Master? Well, I suppose you're something similar. Don't worry, I've put everything in my Storage Pouch." I pat the pouch hanging diagonally across my shoulder. "More importantly, will you be alright without me? Can you clean properly? Don't stay cooped up all the time; get some sunlight occasionally, okay?" "Ellie, before you came here, I had always managed on my own, so I'll be fine." Ellie is me. My real name is Ino Eri, a proper Japanese person. It's been about 30...
